As Pacific Northwest farmers face increasing climate extremes—from summer droughts to intense winter floods—diversifying landscapes becomes essential. This session explores practical agroforestry practices tailored for PNW small to mid-sized farms. We will dive into alley cropping, silvopasture, and forest farming practices that optimize water retention, enhance biodiversity, and diversify market opportunities. Through regional case studies attendees will learn how agroforestry can help them adapt and diversify PNW farms.

About the Speakers

  • Carrie Brausieck

    Agroforestry Northwest

    Carrie Brausieck is a co-founder and the Executive Director of Agroforestry Northwest. She has worked in Agroforestry for about a decade in Western WA and specializes in agroecological systems, multi-functional riparian forest buffers, forest farming and food forests. She is passionate about agroforestry as a solution to competing land use in the PNW. Carrie has MSc in Environmental Policy & Anthropology and a Graduate Certification in Agroforestry.

  • Elsa Little

    Agroforestry Northwest

    Elsa Little is an ecologist and educator with a strong commitment to regenerative land use practices. She previously managed community orchard projects and taught forest gardening with the Orchard Project in the UK. Elsa has six years experience as a wildlife ecologist and an MSc in Environmental Management with a focus on Agroforestry.
