Volunteering is a great way to learn and build skills, meet new people, and get involved in Tilth Alliance’s mission.
We host a wide variety of volunteer opportunities that will get your hands dirty in the gardens, farm, wetlands, and forests. Volunteers can also help improve access to fresh produce in our community, celebrate community meals and support family and senior nutrition programs, and make our annual events successful.
Getting Started
First time volunteering? Please complete a volunteer registration form before signing up for your first shift. Once you’ve registered, you can browse the types of volunteer opportunities that we offer below and sign up for a shift.
Most of our volunteer opportunities are one-time commitments lasting 2-4 hours, with easy online sign-ups. If you decide to volunteer on a regular basis, simply sign up for multiple shifts. Most volunteer jobs display shifts for 4-6 weeks at a time. Some volunteer jobs lend themselves to flexible scheduling and their descriptions will include staff contact information so you can arrange a time to volunteer.
Get Your Hands Dirty
Learn by doing as you work alongside Tilth Alliance’s staff and other community members at our community learning gardens in North Seattle, Southeast Seattle and Kirkland, and at Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands. Depending on the time of year, we’ll be weeding, preparing beds for planting, harvesting food for local food banks, spreading mulch, caring for natural areas and more! No experience necessary, and gloves and tools are provided.
Increase Food Access
Help make good food from local farmers more accessible in the community! Volunteers help pack Good Food Bags — weekly bags of fresh, sustainably-grown produce, sourced from farmers during the season — at Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. June through September, volunteers can also support our pay-what-you-can Farm Stand.
Help at an Event
Support our fun, educational, and community-building events! Our annual events in Seattle include the Edible Plant Sale – our largest event and most vital fundraiser of the year – and Farm Fest, a celebration of the bounty of Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands. Volunteer support is often needed for smaller events as well, so check back to learn about specific volunteer jobs and any special volunteer perks we’re able to offer.
Prepare Good Food
Lend a hand at a monthly community dinner, or work alongside registered dietitians to support more than 20 multicultural meal sites throughout the greater Seattle area. These volunteer opportunities are limited and may have special requirements.
Intern With Us
Interns hold pivotal roles at Tilth Alliance contributing their time and skills while gaining valuable work experience with a successful nonprofit.
Assist With Classes
Help our instructors as they lead hands-on courses designed to inspire participants to grow food and learn in community. We are looking for volunteers who can commit to assisting with about 3-4 class per year. This opportunity requires a one-hour training session.
Bring a Group
Interested in bringing a group from your company or organization? Small groups (6 or fewer) are welcome to sign up online to join our posted volunteer work parties, as long as each group member completes the volunteer registration form.
