Building Momentum for Organic Farming in Washington

As we move into the new year, it’s important to take stock of where we are and where we want to go. Right now, there’s real momentum building for organic and regenerative agriculture in Washington.

Through the Coalition for Organic and Regenerative Agriculture (CORA), Tilth Alliance is helping lead advocacy efforts that are changing the conversation around sustainable farming in our state.

CORA works to ensure the needs and perspectives of organic farmers are integrated into wider agricultural policy discussions.

A Leading Voice for Organic Farmers

CORA has come a long way since its inception. We’re increasingly being recognized as a leading voice for organic and regenerative farmers in Washington. We’ve been invited to participate in several statewide agriculture forums and working groups, allowing us to ensure that the needs and perspectives of organic farmers are integrated into wider agricultural policy discussions.

We’re also building bridges with conventional agricultural organizations — creating connections that strengthen agriculture across our state.

Pushing for Real Support

This year, CORA reintroduced two bills in the state legislature: SB5474 and HB1588. These bills focus on creating an Organic Action Plan and funding a microgrant program that would help farmers adopt organic, regenerative and climate-smart practices.

We’re working closely with key legislators who have shown to be champions of organic in the last few sessions, and leveraging those relationships to build broader recognition of the benefits the organic sector brings to Washington.

At the same time, we’re building strong relationships across the political spectrum. We’re collaborating with partners on a State of Organic in Washington report to give lawmakers the data they need to make smart decisions. Even with tight state budgets, CORA has real momentum and is laying the groundwork for long-term support for organic farmers and the organic sector statewide.

The Power of Direct Advocacy

CORA wouldn’t be where it is today without the mobilization of a strong membership. The impact of direct communication and relationship building between lawmakers and their farmer constituents cannot be understated.

If you’re a farmer practicing organic or regenerative methods — or you’re passionate about supporting this work — we invite you to get involved. Growing CORA’s membership is essential to keep the momentum going and to increase the credibility and impact of our collective voice.
