Community Learning Garden at McAuliffe Park

The Community Learning Garden at McAuliffe Park is a vibrant living classroom rooted in the principles of permaculture and organic stewardship. We grow seasonal vegetables, herbs, and more — all guided by ecological practices that nurture both soil and community. A compost system is actively managed alongside a demonstration rain garden, a rainwater-harvesting cistern, and other features that model water and resource conservation.

Set among mature orchard trees, a historic barn, a community P-Patch, and an urban forest, this land is more than a garden — it is a shared space of learning, restoration, and connection. We acknowledge with deep respect that McAuliffe Park is located on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish people, including the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes, who have lived in relationship with this place since time immemorial. We honor their enduring presence, care and stewardship.

Today, the garden is tended by a growing community of volunteers, students, and Tilth Alliance gardeners. Together, we cultivate not only food but also relationships—with the land, with each other, and with the understanding that growing and sharing food can be acts of resilience, joy, and healing.

Volunteer at McAuliffe Park

Volunteering is a great to get involved with Tilth Alliance! During weekly work parties, small groups of Tilth Alliance volunteers tend to annual vegetable crops and perennial plantings, learning how to grow food, harvest rainwater and conserve water and other resources.
