The Farm to Table program provides food access and education to participating childcare centers in Seattle to increase access to quality nutritious foods and improve our local food system.
The Farm to Table program is a collaborative partnership of organizations funded by City of Seattle’s Human Services Department, and in partnership with the Department of Education and Early Learning to support preschools serving families on low incomes.
Our partners in this work include Solid Ground, Farmstand Local Foods and Nourishian for Life. We provide virtual and in-person classes to help children develop food literacy, learn about soil and plants, explore flavors, and practice cooking. Family engagement events like cook-alongs and pop-up farm stands extend the Farm to Table experience to home. Field trips to local learning farms create space for hands-on activities that help children understand where their food comes from and foster connections to the land and people that grow our food.
The principles that drive our work:
- Access to quality food
- Community connection
- Health equity
- Appreciation for farm and food workers
- Honoring the land
- Respect culture and tradition
- Enjoy and celebrate food
- Resilient and regenerative practices
