Tilth Alliance Celebrates 50 Years of Cultivating a Sustainable Food Future

This summer, the Tilth movement marks a major milestone: 50 years of promoting organic, sustainable, and equitable food systems in the Pacific Northwest. Tilth Alliance will honor this anniversary with a special “Cultivate & Celebrate: 50 Years of Tilth” event on Sunday, July 28 from 5-8 p.m. at Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands in Seattle.

From humble beginnings in 1974 at a meeting of nearly 800 farmers, gardeners and food system activists in Ellensburg, WA, the Tilth movement has blossomed into a vast network of thousands of food system professionals, farmers, gardeners and activists spread throughout the Pacific Northwest region. Tilth Alliance has been at the forefront, championing organic and regenerative agriculture practices, community gardening, farm education, improved food access and more.

Grassroots beginning for the Tilth movement in the 1970s.
