Meet Your Chef: Aaron Tekulve of Surrell

Aaron Tekulve grew up in the beautiful mountains of Western Montana near Glacier National Park, in a family steeped in cooking tradition. His mother and grandmother were his first culinary inspirations — and when he named his business Surrell, he named it for them. Surrell is the middle name of all the first-born women on his mother’s side, a tribute to their immense support and the love of food they passed down to him.

In Seattle, Aaron has worked with some of the very best chefs and restaurants, including Canlis and as Sous Chef for John Sundstrom at Lark, and has since worked with the team at Coi, the two Michelin-starred San Francisco restaurant. In 2022 and 2023, Surrell was named one of Wine Enthusiast’s Top 50 Best Restaurants in America, and in 2026, Aaron became a James Beard Award Semifinalist. His cuisine is always in the pursuit of deliciousness — using strong technique and love, and specializing in Modern Pacific Northwest cooking.
