Calling all young people! Do you love to cook? Have you never cooked a day in your life? Do you want to know more about cooking? No? Do you want free food? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, join us on Friday, July 19; 3-6 p.m. at Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands! Please RSVP for this event below.

A tour of our farm will showcase some of the local, seasonal produce used in the cooking activities for the afternoon. We will be leading cooking demonstrations to equip you with basic kitchen techniques that you can use in your everyday life. At the end of it all, you will walk away with new cooking skills and a produce bag full of fresh, seasonal fruits and veggies.

Stay tuned for the menu! We will have vegan options, and always will focus on sourcing ingredients for the meal from small, local BIPOC farms who use organic growing practices.

What to Expect

  • Following public health guidelines: masks are optional, and proof of vaccination is not required.
  • We will have limited indoor space alongside outdoor, covered seating areas. Please dress for the weather. If you plan to explore the farm, please wear proper footwear.
  • This event centers youth, but everyone is welcome. Invite friends and family to share a meal with us by registering for yourselves and others! We ask that each person registers so we can prepare the correct amount of food.
  • We welcome donations during the event, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. We accept cash, cards and Apple Pay.
  • On-site parking is available, but we encourage visitors to walk, bike, or take public transit, when possible. There is a bike rack on site, and we are a short walk from 7 and 106 buses and the light rail station.

About the Youth Resiliency Series

In January of 2024, a small group of youth in South Seattle were awarded the Youth Healing Project Grant to address the negative effects of COVID-19 on young people in King County. So was born the Youth Resiliency Series. This series will include workshops that teach young folks healthy coping habits through a variety of methods.

Our Community Cafeterias focus on teaching basic cooking and kitchen skills and about eating fresh, local fruits and veggies. Our wellness workshops will highlight the benefits of movement and connection to self and the natural world. The Youth Resiliency Series will sunset with community building through artistic expression: a community mural to highlight the beauty of being together and sharing common goals. We hope that this series will foster connections and relationships among young people in South Seattle and demonstrate that no matter how hard things may seem, we are never alone.
