Join us on Wednesday, January 28, 4-6 p.m., for our second virtual Farm Walk brought to you by Farm Walks, a collaboration between Tilth Alliance and Washington State University (WSU) Food Systems Program, and Edge Perma. Farm Walks are farmer-to-farmer educational opportunities hosted by organic, sustainable, and innovative farm and food businesses throughout Washington State.

This free virtual farm tour is supported through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP). TOPP is a program of the USDA Organic Transition Initiative and is administered by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) National Organic Program (NOP).

The Northwest Transition to Organic Partnership Program (NW TOPP) helps farmers who are interested in pursuing organic certification by pairing them with a certified organic mentor in a similar geographic location and field of production.

Participants find the mentorship program extremely helpful for receiving guidance on their Organic System Plan, organic recordkeeping, land management, inputs and pest control, and more.

About Wild Hare Organic Farm

Though they are Puget Sound natives, Katie and Mark started organic farming on the east end of Long Island and cut their teeth selling to chefs and eaters in New York. After bringing their daughter Hazel into the world, they decided to put down roots in western Washington.

With the support of a loving family, good friends and fellow farmers, they established Wild Hare Organic Farm shortly after Hazel’s first birthday.

In 2015, the Green family became the next generation of farmers and stewards of land that Dick and Terry Carkner have cultivated as Terry’s Berries for more than 30 wonderful years. They are honored to play this part in preserving farmland from one generation to the next and aim to protect the family-farm tradition, promote the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model and produce uncommonly delicious and nutritious food.

On this Virtual Farm Walk, expect to:

  • Learn about all aspects of Wild Hare Organic Farm in Tacoma, WA
  • Learn about organic certification and the TOPP Mentorship program
  • Meet staff from Tilth Alliance, Washington State University (WSU), Wild Hare Organic Farm, Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) and Edge Perma

Schedule:

  • Virtual Farm Walk: 4-5 p.m.
  • WSDA Organic Program Office Hours: 5-6 p.m.

Watch the TOPP Mentorship video series to learn about how these organic farms and ranches are paving the way.
