Description
Learn how to identify, gather and prepare some of our city’s most common and delicious edible weeds and wild foods. Many plants we consider weeds hide huge amounts of nutrition. Get to know some of these healthy and delicious plants as we virtually tour around the farm, gather some greens and then discuss how you can use them in the kitchen to enjoy the harvest. Each season offers unique edible treasures – we will be focusing on plants and recipes relevant to the time of year.
In this workshop, we will:
- Identify seasonal wild plants such as dandelion, chickweed, bittercress and docks
- Learn about safety issues, gathering ethics, local rules and regulations
- Discuss general uses of plants gathered as well as harvesting and processing plants
- Cook and share seasonal recipes you can easily make at home
This in-person class will include a combination of indoor and outdoor activities, including lecture, farm tour and cooking demonstration. The indoor portion will be in a room with an air filter and with windows and doors open for good ventilation. Class size is limited to 14 people, and we will be following current public health recommendations. Please bring a mask, and dress for an outdoor tour as well as garden and kitchen activities. Bringing a camera to take photos of plants is recommended.
