Did you know that there is a hidden world of food growing all around us? Join us this spring as we discover the world of wild edibles and native plants! In this 7-week afterschool session, we will take a closer look at the history and importance of wild edibles as a food source while building a deeper connection to the land and the natural world. Participants will:
- Learn how to safely identify the different wild edible plants growing in the garden, farm and wetlands
- Create tasty snacks like calendula cookies and tea, wild greens pesto, and cleaver smoothies from foraged plants, enjoying their flavors while also learning about their benefits
- Strengthen cooking skills through mindful harvest techniques, measuring, reading recipes, blending, and using knives safely.
- Develop stewardship skills through planting, weeding, and seed starting as we tend to the garden and other natural growing spaces on the farm.
