Experience the joy of harvesting, cooking, and tasting in the garden! Let’s discover where our food comes from while creating simple, tasty snacks for all to enjoy! We will explore flavors and create recipes to culminate in a camper created cookbook.
Together, we will:
- Harvest fruits and veggies from the garden to prepare fresh and nutritious snacks
- Learn about our food’s journey from soil to snack, exploring the seasonal availability of the growing produce in the garden
- Use age-appropriate food preparation techniques. We’ll practice chopping, slicing, grating, measuring and mixing
- Practice following recipes and create our own recipes
- Explore soil, compost, and worms and understand their connection to healthy soil and growing food
- Get creative! Compose and design a Soil to Snack Cookbook to take home
- Make new friends while caring for the garden, expanding our palates, and practicing our cooking skills!
Cooking camps are a smaller group size and have an additional cost for supplies. Dietary considerations and food allergies must be communicated in advance. Please be aware that our kitchen is a shared facility that uses nuts and other allergens.
At Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands, we group by age (generally 6-8 and 9-11); however, this varies due to registration numbers and staff to camper ratios. We do our best to honor grouping requests for friends and siblings but cannot guarantee all requests.
