Soil to Snack

Description
Have you ever wondered about the story of the food in your lunch box? Each day, campers will harvest produce from the garden and prepare a fresh & nutritious snack. Campers will discover where our food comes from by tracing its journey from how it grows, to how it gets to our plates, and place it within the context of larger food systems. Using simple and safe food preparation techniques, campers will practice chopping, slicing, grating, measuring, and mixing. We will learn how to read a recipe, think about seasonal availability, and use our senses to explore different flavor combinations. Throughout the week, we will also look at soil and compost, seeds, garden critters, and learn about plant lifecycles by studying new and growing crops.
Note: Cooking camps are a smaller group size and have an additional cost for supplies.
