Description

Protect your garden beds over the winter and prepare for next year by improving your soil quality! Soil building is an important component of organic gardening and the fall and winter are perfect times to add organic matter that will feed your plants throughout the year.

In this class, we will discuss:

  • Final harvests and how to know when to say goodbye to your summer plants
  • Overview of soil health, benefits of organic matter and soil testing
  • Choosing cover crops, how to plant them and when to chop them in
  • Using composting mulches to protect garden beds, encourage soil critters and add nutrients

This in-person class will take place outdoors and will include a conversational lecture, hands-on activities and a garden tour. Class size is limited to about 15 people, and we will be following current public health recommendations. Please dress for the weather and garden activities.
