Description

Protect your garden beds over the winter and prepare for next year by improving your soil quality!  Soil building is an important component of organic gardening and the fall and winter are perfect times to add organic matter that will feed your plants throughout the year. 

In this online class, we will discuss:

  • Final harvests and how to know when to say goodbye to your summer plants
  • Overview of soil health, benefits of organic matter and soil testing
  • Choosing cover crops, how to plant them and when to chop them in
  • Using composting mulches to protect garden beds, encourage soil critters and add nutrients 

This session will include a live, interactive lecture & discussion with a slideshow, along with a virtual garden tour and time for Q & A with the instructor. A detailed outline with recommended resources will also be provided. We will be using Zoom for this class, which you can use on your computer or phone.

About the Instructor

Marni Sorin
Marni has worked as a farmer, a gardener, and an environmental educator over the last 15 years – spending time with plants and people outside is what brings her joy. In her role at Tilth Alliance, she manages the adult education program, teaches gardening classes, and cares for the Good Shepherd Center Learning Garden, along with our community volunteers.
