Kain Na Tayo “Let’s Eat Together” with Chef Marizel Yuen

Date
Sunday, May 17
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Location
Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands
5513 S Cloverdale St
Seattle, WA 98118 United States
Directions

Celebrate Filipino cuisine and the vibrant South Seattle community with us on Sunday, May 17; 5-7 p.m. This gathering will highlight traditional Filipino food prepared by chef and community advocate Marizel Yuen, who draws from her roots from the Philippines and her deep commitment to building sustainable, localized food systems. We prioritize sourcing ingredients from small, local BIPOC farms that practice organic and sustainable growing methods.

Guests will enjoy a group discussion around sustainability and how it is deeply connected to community building. There will also be recipes to share, and a lovingly prepared dinner:

  • Veg Tofu Pancit
  • Tortang Talong (eggplant omelette)
  • Bibingka (baked rice cake)

This is a free event. RSVP is required.

What to Expect

  • Following public health guidelines: masks are optional, and proof of vaccination is not required.
  • We will have limited indoor space alongside outdoor, covered seating areas. Please dress for the weather. If you plan to explore the farm, please wear proper footwear.
  • Everyone is welcome — invite friends and family to share a meal with us by registering for yourselves and others! We ask that each person register so we can prepare the correct amount of food.
  • In case of leftovers, please bring containers/tupperware!
  • We welcome donations during the event, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
  • On-site parking is available, but we encourage visitors to walk, bike, or take public transit when possible. There is a bike rack on site, and we are a short walk from the 7 and 106 buses and the light rail station.

Please email Nala Thomas, Community Kitchens Project Manager, if you have any special requests or questions about this meal or the Community Kitchen program.

Funded in part by a Public Participation Grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology.
