If your middle schooler loves gardening, plants, and working with younger children, this camp is for them! Junior Counselors will grow their skill as young leaders throughout the week in mentorship with camp staff, facilitating small group activities, and learning what it’s like to teach outdoors, all the while learning about plant uses and lifecycles. Junior counselors will participate in camp activities while providing mentorship and leadership for campers.
Please arrive 15 minutes early on Monday for a short site orientation.
This week’s camp description:
Let’s discover seeds and sprouts in our spring garden! Together, we’ll use our senses to take a closer look at seeds, new sprouts, plant cycles, healthy soil, our beloved decomposers (bugs!) and more.
During camp, we will:
- Observe and dissect seeds, plant flowers and vegetables in the garden, and help emerging pollinators.
- Start herb and flower plants from seed to take home- learn to care for them as they grow.
- Investigate our environment and deepen our garden knowledge. How do seeds know when to sprout? What do different plants need to grow?
- Prepare seed and sprout inspired seasonal snack, make garden tea, create seasonal art, and care for the garden.
- Go on a walking field trip to Green Lake to learn about our local ecosystem.
- Explore how we can strengthen our connection with the natural world while having a fun-filled spring break!
This camp will be held outdoors with some indoor time for crafting and in the case of inclement weather.
