If your middle schooler loves cooking, gardening, and working with younger children, this camp is for them! Junior Counselors will grow their skill as young leaders throughout the week in mentorship with camp staff, facilitating small group activities, and learning what it’s like to teach outdoors, all the while learning about food and where it comes from. Junior counselors will participate in camp activities while providing mentorship and leadership for campers.

Please arrive 15 minutes early on Monday for a short site orientation.

This week’s camp description:

Let’s create delicious snacks from a winter garden favorite: kale! We’ll use seasonal produce to create our own garden cookbook while learning about where our food comes from. Together, we will:

  • Harvest and prepare tasty snacks featuring kale, including a winter salad, green smoothie, kale chips and kale pesto pasta.
  • Warm up with winter spices and winter teas.
  • Create and design a cookbook to take home with recipes from our week together
  • Learn where food comes from, observing plant lifecycles from seed to plate.
  • Care for our garden, explore soil and compost, and meet our worm friends who help our garden grow.
  • Go on a walking field trip to Green Lake to learn about our local ecosystem.

Cooking camps are a smaller group size and will include both outdoor and indoor activities. Please note that this camp ends at 1 p.m.
