If your middle schooler loves cooking, gardening, and working with younger children, this camp is for them! Junior Counselors will grow their skill as young leaders throughout the week in mentorship with camp staff, facilitating small group activities, and learning what it’s like to teach outdoors, all the while learning about food and where it comes from. Junior counselors will participate in camp activities while providing mentorship and leadership for campers.
Please arrive 15 minutes early on Monday for a short site orientation.
This week’s camp description:
Join us as we welcome winter into the kitchen! In this weeklong cooking camp, we will cook and enjoy different hearty comfort foods to nourish our bodies, bring warmth to our plates, and keep the cold at bay.
Our time together will be spent:
- Using seasonal produce and warming spices to create comforting dishes from scratch like soup, bread, pasta, and tea.
- Gaining hands-on experience by learning and practicing essential cooking skills like knife safety, measuring, kneading, and chopping.
- Helping prepare our Children’s Garden for spring by working in our garden beds and starting and planting spring seeds.
- Learn where food comes, from seed to plate.
Cooking camps are a smaller group size and will include both outdoor and indoor activities. Participants will receive recipes and samples to take home.
