Jr. Counselor: Summer Garden Artists
Description
If your teens or preteens love gardening and working with younger children, this is for them! Junior counselors help set up and clean up farm or garden activities, assist camp staff, lead small group activities and learn about organic gardening and farming. It’s all the fun of camp, plus the opportunity to develop leadership skills.
Junior counselors come 30 minutes before campers arrive and stay 30 minutes after campers depart to help set-up and clean-up (built into the times listed). Orientation to camp policies and procedures will be provided. Like campers, junior counselors bring their own snack and lunch.
At This Camp
Garden Artists is one of our most popular camp themes, and we’re excited to craft and create new sculptures, paintings, and designs! This summer, we will celebrate the Children’s Garden through a variety of media, including colored pencils, clay, paint, and natural garden materials. We will learn about animal habitats, plant lifecycles, culinary arts, and much more! As we draw inspiration from nature, we will develop our reciprocal relationship with the garden, learn about plant and animal knowledge, and practice caring for the garden as the garden cares for us. At the end of the session, we’ll display our work and turn the garden into a colorful art gallery for families to enjoy. Our program is informed by Learning in Places materials that are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards and emphasize equitable, field-based experiences for children. We actively work to incorporate family and community knowledge into our programming as we learn together in our farm, gardens, and wetlands.
