Description

This class will go over the basics of bioremediation and what you can do to participate! We’ll learn from Jade Frolic and Mack Kleiva of Metamimicry about this method of using biological organisms to clean the environment.

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn the basics of bioremediation
  • Explore grassroots-level bioremediation installation designs and methods
  • Discuss the importance of this work and how it helps to mitigate the effects of climate change

This in-person session will take place primarily indoors and will include a lecture presentation, discussion and some show & tell. Class size is limited to 20 people. We will be following the current public health recommendations.

About the Instructors

Mack Kleiva
Mack Kleiva (they/she) grew up in the Puget Sound visiting beaches across the Kitsap Peninsula daily, looking out for orcas on every ferry ride, making salmon prints in elementary art classes, and living in awe of the beauty this region has to offer. They studied Environmental Chemistry and Science Communication at The Evergreen State College, graduating in 2019 with a dual BA/BS. Their focus was on the biogeochemical processes of nutrient and toxin cycling. They’re passionate about practicing remediation both socially and environmentally.
Jade Frolic
Jade Frolic (any pronoun) is from the Gulf side of Florida and has had an ever-growing interest in the world of fungi. From studying applied cultural anthropology and sustainability at The Evergreen State college, Jade then received a Master’s in Environmental Management from Western Colorado University in 2020 while starting a mushroom cultivation operation with the Potter Valley Tribe. Jade’s current passions lie at the interface of tribal relations, mycology, and biomimicry.
