Join us for “Home Away From Home,” a community meal honoring Palestinian cuisine and what it means to be a child of diaspora, through the lens of Chef Remin Basha. Born in Haifa, Palestine, and raised in Firestone, Colorado, Remin draws on her heritage and her food justice work to create dishes that tell stories of land, history, and connection.
This meal celebrates flavors that honor Palestinian history while embracing the seasonal abundance of the Coast Salish lands. As always, we will make sure to have vegan and gluten-free options. In keeping with our commitment to sustainability, we source ingredients from small, local BIPOC farms that use organic, regenerative growing practices, and we work to minimize food waste throughout the meal.
Guests will enjoy cultural storytelling, recipes to share, and a lovingly prepared dinner:
- Stuffed grape leaves
- Molokhia with Chicken & Rice
- Tiramisu with an Arab twist
This is a free event. RSVP is required.
What to Expect
- Following public health guidelines: masks are optional, and proof of vaccination is not required.
- We will have limited indoor space alongside outdoor, covered seating areas. Please dress for the weather. If you plan to explore the farm, please wear proper footwear.
- Everyone is welcome — invite friends and family to share a meal with us by registering for yourselves and others! We ask that each person register so we can prepare the correct amount of food.
- In case of leftovers, please bring containers/tupperware!
- We welcome donations during the event, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
- On-site parking is available, but we encourage visitors to walk, bike, or take public transit when possible. There is a bike rack on site, and we are a short walk from the 7 and 106 buses and the light rail station.
Please email Nala Thomas, Community Kitchens Project Manager, if you have any special requests or questions about this meal or the Community Kitchen program.
