Gardening in Unique & Small Spaces

Description
Many of us want to take on gardening or begin gardening again, but feel inhibited by not having a big space to grow our gardens. And there can sometimes be long wait lists for community garden space. Happily, many edible plants do very well in containers and small planters. Join us to learn about the possibilities for growing gardens on rooftops, balconies, concrete patios, small green spaces and more!
In this class we will discuss:
- How to identify unique and small growing spaces
- Tips for growing produce in an urban setting
- The basics of indoor and outdoor container gardening
- Pros/Cons of alternative growing spaces and portable gardens
This class will include a lecture, group discussions, and hands-on learning activities. We will be outdoors at the University District Food Bank Rooftop Farm; detailed directions will be sent prior to class. Please bring weather appropriate clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Gloves and tools will be provided.
