Are you considering starting a new school garden, or reviving an under-used growing space? Join this Garden Educator Workshop to explore tools to help you design or reimagine a school or youth garden. There are several key components for designing outdoor learning places that support relevant, equitable, and critical learning. We’ll bring our experiences from Tilth Alliance Children’s Gardens around Seattle, and school gardens from across the country. We will also use resources from the Co-designing Places for Outdoor Learning from the Learning in Places project. We invite you to join the conversation!

In this virtual online training, we will discuss:

  • Site selection and cultivating a “sense of place”
  • Using expansive design techniques such as exploring the histories of place of your location and developing vision and values for the school garden program
  • Designing for sustainability both for the longevity of the garden program and conserving resources
  • How to use the co-design process that includes community & student collaboration

We welcome anyone involved with school gardens including garden educators, teachers, parents & caregivers, volunteers, and community partners. We encourage school garden teams to attend together! There are 2 STEM clock hours available for teachers. Tilth Alliance is a Washington OSPI-approved clock hour provider.
