Description

Cooking with local produce shouldn’t break your budget. In fact, shopping locally and in tune with the seasons can help you save money and boost the nutritional value of your weekly meals. This class, for amateur and expert home cooks alike, will help you incorporate more local, seasonal and nutritious food into your meal prep rotations. Join Chef Ángela Ortez Zarate to explore ways to enjoy locally grown foods throughout the year.

In this class, you will learn:

  • When/where/why/how to shop locally in King County and Washington State
  • How to balance the elements of flavor, texture & nutrition to create your favorite dishes
  • Basic meal preparation plans to cook with the season
  • Pantry stocking essentials and work-arounds

Activities you can expect in this class:

  • Sampling of local fresh produce and goods
  • Demonstration of seasonal meal planning
  • Hands-on seasonal pesto to take home. Nut free and dairy free options available.

This workshop will be held indoors with a combination of conversational lecture, show-and-tell, taste testing, and hands-on activities. Class size is limited to about 15 people and we will be following current public health recommendations. Cost of class includes supplies – you will take a sample home.
