Value in Agroforestry: Bigleaf Maple Syrup Production

Join us in the Acme Valley to learn from Neil McLeod (Neil’s Big Lead Maple Syrup) and Patrick Shults (Washington State University Extension Forester) about syrup tapping on Bigleaf Maples. Neil will share the non-invasive and sustainable practices that allow them to tap trees previously thought to be untappable and showcase their symbiotic relationship with some of our region’s most well-known trees.

This Farm Walk is funded by the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) Specialty Crop Block Grant Program.

WSU Food Systems Program and Tilth Alliance have been collaboratively organizing Farm Walks since 2004. These farmer-to-farmer educational opportunities are hosted by organic, sustainable, and innovative farm and food businesses throughout Washington State. We aim to highlight our farmer hosts and their unique expertise and experiences. We reach new, beginning, and existing farmers seeking education, advice, and mentorship from these experienced farmers, as well as agricultural and food systems professionals.
