Cool Season Gardening
Description
Yes, you can garden in the spring – even before the temps climb and the drizzles dry up! Our maritime climate allows us to grow all sorts of crops earlier in the year than you might expect. Whether you’re new to the area or just eager to get started gardening for the year, this class will inspire you to grow delicious and nutritious veggies from seeds or plant starts.
In this in-person class we will:
- Learn which vegetable crops perform best in the Seattle area early in the year
- Explore multiple types of cool crop gardening; including containers, raised beds, and in-ground gardens
- Examine plans for basic season extension structures such as hoop houses and cold frames to find out if one might work for your garden
- Practice seeding and transplanting cool season crops
This in-person class will take place both indoors and outdoors, with some hands-on activities – please plan to dress for the weather. Class size is limited to about 15 people, and we will be following current public health recommendations.
