Description

Making your own compost using a worm bin is fun and easy to do! This in-depth exploration of composting with worms covers everything you need to know to get started right away, including hands-on practice and plenty of time for questions and answers. This class is suitable for people who are new to composting with worms as well as those looking to gain additional confidence.

In this in-person class we will:

  • Learn the in’s and out’s of composting with worms bins
  • Explore multiple types of worm bins and other choices for composting food scraps
  • Demonstrate how to build an indoor and an outdoor worm bin, using free plans available on our website
  • Practice bedding a worm bin, adding food scraps and maintaining an existing bin, harvesting finished compost and adding compost to the garden

This in-person class will take place both indoors and outdoors, with some hands-on activities – please plan to dress for the weather. Class size is limited to about 15 people, and we will be following current public health recommendations.

About the Instructor

Alex Soleil
Alexandria shares their passion for urban gardening by teaching classes and supporting the Soil and Water Stewardship program as part of the Community Education Team at Tilth Alliance. They are certified in Permaculture Design, completed the Master Composter Sustainability Steward program, and have enjoyed collaborating in Seattle’s community garden spaces for over a decade.
