Description

Learn how to create rich compost using food scraps and yard waste during this online class. Compost is fundamental to organic vegetable gardening and will improve and enliven any type of garden soil. Making compost at home can also save you money and reduce the carbon footprint of your garden.

In this online class you will:

  • Learn fundamentals about what compost is and how to use in new and existing gardens
  • Take a virtual tour of various compost systems available so you can discover which are right for you
  • Discuss yard waste compost versus food waste compost
  • Look inside a worm bin and explore how to build a hot compost pile

This virtual class features a live, interactive lecture with slide show, virtual compost system tour and time for questions and answers with the instructor. A detailed outline with recommended resources, including how-to videos, will also be provided.

Chris Hoffer
Chris Hoffer has worked at Tilth Alliance for over 8 years, supporting projects related to gardening, environmental stewardship, nutrition and cooking. He is based at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands and loves all types of learning experiences, with a particular passion for composting, drip irrigation, edible landscapes and native plants.
