Join us Friday, August 25; 5-7 p.m. to celebrate the season, and the work of our amazing Youth Stewards! Tilth Alliance’s Rainier Beach Youth Steward program is for individuals ages 14-18 to gain job experience through wetland restoration and farm education. They have been working hard all summer to grow, harvest and now cook together here onsite at the farm. Please RSVP for this event below.

Dinner will be inspired by food grown in the milpa, sometimes called the sister’s garden, where corn, beans, squash, hot peppers, and sunflowers are currently growing in harmony with each other. This garden is significant as it teaches us the power of growing together, as well as the deep, interconnected history of indigenous land stewardship.

The youth crew will also be leading some fun, educational activities and offering tours of the farm and gardens.

Stay tuned for the menu. The crew will be taking inspiration from the seasonal harvest and their various cultural backgrounds, so it’s sure to be a great one! As always, we will make sure to have vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. We will focus on produce grown on our farm, but will also source from small, local BIPOC farms who use organic growing practices.

What to Expect

  • Following public health guidelines, masks are optional and proof of vaccination is not required.
  • We will have limited indoor space and additional outdoor, covered seating areas. Please dress for the weather as our space is not air conditioned. If you plan to tour the farm, please wear appropriate footwear.
  • Everyone is welcome- invite friends and family to share a meal with us by registering for yourselves and others! We ask that each person is registered so we can prepare the correct amount of food.
  • This programming is supported by the Washington Dept. of Ecology, alongside our generous community. We welcome donations during the event, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. We accept cash, cards and Apple Pay.
  • On-site parking is available, but we encourage visitors to walk, bike or take public transit, if possible. There is a bike rack onsite, and we are a short walk from the #7, #106 and light rail station.

Volunteer

These events are truly a community effort! We welcome support from food prep to set up/breakdown. Since the Youth Stewards will be preparing the meal, we will not need volunteers to help prepare the meal this time, but we would love volunteers to help clean-up so we can gift the stewards with that token of appreciation.

Please email kerricacciata@tilthalliance.org if you have any special requests or questions about the Community Kitchen program.
