Description

Thinking about keeping honey bees but not sure how to get started? Join us to learn about the basics of urban beekeeping and the steps to set up hives. You will leave understanding what’s involved and your next steps toward becoming a beginner beekeeper.

In this class, you will learn about:

  • Honey bee biology and life cycle
  • Setting up a basic bee hive and necessary beekeeping equipment
  • Basics of hive management and maintaining healthy bees
  • City and state regulations for keeping bees
  • Year-in-the-life overview of a backyard beekeeper
  • Tips for creating a pollinator-friendly garden

This full-day workshop will take place indoors, in a room with an air filter and with windows and doors open for good ventilation. There will be a half-hour break mid-way through the day for lunch. Class is lecture-based and experiential; participants will have the opportunity to assemble a full beehive.
