Jeff Rogers

Jeff Rogers is the founder and sole operator of Aspen Hollow Sheep Station in Redmond, WA. After relocating from Park City, Utah in 2005 where he shepherded a flock of ewes in the Uinta Mountains utilizing a Transhumance system, Jeff started a landraced project to build composite breeds of sheep that have been selected to encapsulate all of the qualities and genetics that excel on improved pastures in high rainfall areas while still producing a sought after wool clip. Through this 20 year project he has developed 3 types of sheep which are further broken down into maternal, self replacement and terminal classes. While all of the types have a shared set of environmental, milk, cold tolerance, feet and parasite resistance/resilience genes each type has been stratified from the nucleus and serves a distinct purpose for maintaining a commercial closed herd.

Today with his working Border Collies Rob (aka Chef) and Silt he produces Snoqualmie Valley Lamb and Snoqualmie Valley Wool from a flock of 100 mothers. These 100% organic lambs and their wool are then marketed in his local market which is made up of restaurants, a local organic small grocery chain as well as yarn and wool stores in the region.

Jeff has over 60,000 hours of organic specific experience with sheep in both dry and wet environments, their management and their 100% forage based diet which is a herbal ley composed of cool season grasses, legumes and herbs. Jeff is a domain expert for organic production of livestock, forage types, soil health, soil structure and forage production and how to build a resilient 24×7 based grazing platform where its resident livestock are managed with ecological stewardship and nature. Additionally, Jeff created the design and built the first UltaLight USDA approved Mobile Harvest Unit in 2013 which operates under USDA Organic Handling where he harvests his own lambs. In his spare time Jeff enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking and listening to music.
