Ren will discuss the benefits of heritage livestock for farmers, consumers, the environment, and the animals themselves, using poultry breeds as an accessible baseline but with information that more broadly applies to other livestock as well. This will include the way heritage vs. production breeds affect agroecology, welfare considerations, health, longevity, production capacity, and the way livestock breeds will affect our evolving food system and climate in the future.

    Ren is a first-generation regenerative farmer raising poultry, waterfowl, and rabbits, specializing in rare and endangered heritage turkeys. His work emphasizes high-welfare animals and the ways that small, regenerative farmers can improve animal welfare in agriculture and how livestock can be environmentally regenerative when raised with care.
