Tackling Plastic Waste on Farms in Western Washington
Zero Waste Washington studied plastic use in agriculture through interviews with 59 farmers across 14 counties. Findings revealed widespread reliance on single-use plastics and challenges in recycling and disposal. Three pilot projects tested durable alternatives and offered support through cost-share, trials, and recycling events.

Nayeli Campos
Zero Waste WashingtonNayeli Campos, Community Outreach and Policy Coordinator, works to engage the community in key zero waste issues, addressing plastic pollution, waste reduction, and stormwater protection. Nayeli specifically runs programs to reduce plastics and waste, including farm waste and toxics in the community. She also leads Zero Waste Washington’s youth programs and is passionate about community and environmental justice. She works on outreach to schools and school staff and supports and provides technical assistance related to food, plastic, and other wastes. As a graduate of UC Santa Barbara, Nayeli holds a BA from UC Santa Barbara, where she was a UC Global Food Initiative fellow. Recently, Nayeli conducted extensive outreach to local businesses in King County, helping convert them from use of single-use disposable to durable foodware for in-house dining.
