Learning Together: How 2,250 Adults Grew Their Skills in 2024
Whether you’re picking up your first trowel or you’ve been gardening for decades, there’s always more to learn about growing food. More importantly, there’s always more to learn from each other.
950 Community Members, 88 Learning Opportunities
This year, 950 community members joined us for classes, workshops, and intensive courses. They came to learn about soil health, seasonal growing, composting, plant care, and more. We offered 50 classes, 4 intensive courses, 11 day-long workshops and 23 partner-hosted classes across King County.

Making Learning Accessible
We believe everyone deserves access to hands-on food and gardening education, regardless of their income.
This year, we offered 115 free BIPOC solidarity tickets (a value of $11,890) and 159 reduced-price tickets (a value of $8,820). These sliding scale options help us walk our talk when it comes to equity and access.
Meeting Seniors Where They Are
Our registered dietitians brought nutrition education directly to 1,300 immigrant and refugee seniors this year. Some seniors visited us at Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands for field trips. Others learned through on-site lessons at more than 20 multicultural meal sites across King County.
Topics ranged from preventing fall colds to using lemon balm for stress reduction and hawthorn berry and rose petals for heart health. In collaboration with The Pantry, our dietitians also introduced seniors to using fall vegetables in Arab recipes and cooking on a budget for single-person households.
These programs meet people in their own communities, in their own languages, with knowledge that connects to their lived experiences.

More Than Just Skills
Across all our programs, our instructors create spaces for connection. Yes, you’ll learn how to care for soil and plants. But you’ll also connect with your environment, learn alongside neighbors, and become part of our collective work toward a healthier, more equitable, and sustainable food system. That’s what learning together looks like.
